Some tips for setting up your own website:
a) Try and get the exact name that you use as an actor e.g. MarlonBrando.com, DemiMoore.com (you get the idea). If not available, try using a hyphen e.g. Marlon-Brando.com, Demi-Moore.com. You can also try .net, .biz, .us etc., but .com is the best.
b) The cheapest way to register a domain is at www.godaddy.com. Currently $9.20 total for one year. Multiple years are discounted. The most expensive part is the actual hosting of your domain, which runs about $49 a year at www.godaddy.com for their Economy Plan (recommended). Don't sign up for all the extra stuff they try to sell you, just register the domain name and get the basic hosting, nothing else.
c) It's best (and cheapest) to design your own website because uploading photos and text is very straightforward, once you know how.
d) If you need help on how to set up your own website, join a local computer club such as Hawaii Macintosh & Apple Users Society (HMAUS). It's only $20 a year and there are plenty of experts to help you for free. Or join the Hawaii PC Users Group (HPCUG). It's only $24 a year and they also have plenty of experts to help you for free. When it comes to figuring out computers and software, you will find the computer club membership fee is the bargain of a lifetime. It buys you access to a mountain of free knowledge, and saves you a ton of frustration and time. Another big plus with a computer club membership is that you can get special club discounts on printers, ink cartridges etc. (needed for printing your photos) from local stores.
